From fingerprints to card: the TIE in Castelló
Book the toma de huellas (fingerprints) for the province of Castellón soon after you arrive, with form EX-17, a passport photo, your passport and the 790-012 already paid; then come back to collect the card. The TIE card has your photo on it and shows a right you already hold; Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero is its Spanish name.

01What starts it: a visa or a resolution
Two situations lead to a TIE. You arrive in Spain with a long-stay visa, for work, studies or family. Or you are already here and the Oficina de Extranjería sends you a favourable resolución (written decision) on your authorisation.
In both cases the time to book is short, counted from your entry into Spain or from the decision. Book the fingerprint appointment in your first days.
02Huellas TIE Castellón: the fingerprint visit
On the booking website, choose Castellón as the province and the procedure for fingerprints and card issue (toma de huellas). policia.es lists TIE issue at both Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo 6 and Calle Río Sella 5; the Delegación del Gobierno’s page also places the TIE with the Comisaría Provincial. Go to the address on your confirmation, with:
- Your EX-17 form, signed at the bottom
- The passport you entered with, visa page included
- One recent colour photo in passport format, on a white background
- The paid 790-012, stamped or with its online receipt
- Your resolution, if your authorisation was granted in Spain
- A padrón certificate, in case the officer asks for your address
03The resguardo while the card is made
After the fingerprints, you are handed a resguardo: a paper receipt proving the card is on its way. Keep it with your passport. It is your proof until the card is ready.
04Picking up the card
The card is collected in person, later. The office tells you how collection works, and in many provinces it needs a booking of its own. Bring your passport and the resguardo. Check your name, your NIE and the dates before you leave the desk.
05Renewals and replacements
When your authorisation is renewed, a new card follows. A lost or stolen card is replaced the same way, after you report it to the police. Address changes are reported as well. If you must travel while a new card is being made, read about the return authorisation first.

Questions on this sample
Is the TIE a work permit?
No. The authorisation behind the card says whether you may work. The card shows what kind of authorisation you hold.
Can I travel abroad with only the resguardo?
While your visa is still valid, it may be enough to come back. If the visa has run out and the card is still being made, look at the return authorisation before you buy a ticket.
Huellas TIE Castellón: Teodoro Izquierdo or Río Sella?
Whichever your confirmation names. Both appear on policia.es with TIE issue, and no source says which takes which booking.
What photo do they want?
Recent, in colour, passport-sized, with a plain white background behind you.
