Extranjería Castellón: Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo, Calle Río Sella and La Pau

01Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo 6: the Brigada

On policia.es, the Brigada Provincial de Extranjería y Fronteras of Castellón, the police unit for foreigners and borders, has its address at Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo 6, 12004 Castelló de la Plana, with the phone 964 231 658. No opening hours are given. Its list of procedures, in English first and in the words of the page after:

• NIE assignment, and certificates of NIE and of residence (certificados y asignación de NIE y residencia)
• The green certificate for EU citizens (certificados de registro de ciudadano de la Unión)
• The rules for EU citizens and their families (régimen comunitario)
• Issue of the TIE card (expedición TIE)
• Leaving and coming back during a renewal (autorizaciones de regreso)
• Students, extensions of a stay, and residence without work (estudiantes, prórrogas de estancia, residencias no lucrativas)
• Letters of invitation and nationality reports (cartas de invitación, informes de nacionalidad)

02Calle Río Sella 5: the Comisaría Provincial

The Comisaría Provincial, the main police station of the province, is at Calle Río Sella 5, 12005 Castelló de la Plana, phone 964 469 500. In the same directory of policia.es, it carries exactly the same list of foreigners’ procedures as the Brigada, NIE and EU certificates included. No opening hours are given for it either.

Its entry in the general list of police stations adds three things: step-free access for people with reduced mobility, a video link to a sign-language interpreter, and induction loops for hearing-aid users.

03Two police addresses: let the confirmation choose

No official page says which of the two addresses takes which appointment. The Delegación del Gobierno, the State’s office for the Comunitat Valenciana, only says that a group of procedures is done “at the premises of the Comisaría Provincial de Policía de Castellón”: the NIE, the TIE card, the EU registration certificate, short-stay extensions, the filing of extensions for students, travel documents, asylum, letters of invitation and residence certificates.

So do not choose between Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo and Calle Río Sella yourself. Book your procedure for the province of Castellón, read the address on your cita previa confirmation, and go there.

04Calle Escultor Viciano 2: the Oficina de Extranjería

The Oficina de Extranjería belongs to the Subdelegación del Gobierno, the central government’s office in the province. Its sede 2, also called Dependencia provincial de Trabajo e Inmigración, is at Calle Escultor Viciano 2, in the Edificio Administrativo La Pau, 12071 Castelló de la Plana. The Delegación del Gobierno’s extranjería page gives two phones, 964 759 340 and 964 759 365, and opening hours from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 and 14:00. For information, it asks you to book a cita previa. The office decides on:

• Authorisations to live and work as an employee, first ones and renewals
• Employment for a fixed period (duración determinada)
• Research, and highly qualified work with the EU Blue Card
• Work within a transnational provision of services
• Renewals for the self-employed, and for residence exempt from a work permit
• Work authorisations for holders of a stay for studies
• Changes of status towards an authorisation to live and work (modificaciones)

05Sede 1, and questions by email

For Castellón, the same page also lists a sede 1 of the Oficina de Extranjería that deals with residence matters: return authorisations; the decision on extensions of a stay for studies; renewals of non-lucrative residence; reagrupación familiar (family reunification); arraigo, a residence based on roots in Spain, and other exceptional circumstances; long-term residence; minors; and the residence card of an EU citizen’s relative. It gives no address for sede 1, so we give none. If your file is handled there, your appointment or your letters will say where to go.

06The rest of the province, and getting there

policia.es names one more unit with foreigners’ matters in the province: the Comisaría de Vila-real, Calle Comunión 1, 12540 Vila-real, phone 964 506 316 for these matters (switchboard 964 522 100). It lists only general information and letters of invitation (cartas de invitación): no NIE, no TIE card, no EU certificate. The police station of Vinaròs, on Plaza San Telmo, appears with no foreigners’ procedures, and policia.es shows no Policía Nacional office in Borriana, Benicarló, Onda or the other towns. As far as policia.es shows, NIE, TIE and EU procedures in the province are listed only at the two addresses in Castelló.

We found no official page that says which bus, TRAM or train reaches Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo, Calle Río Sella or the Edificio La Pau, so we name no line and no stop. The town hall’s list of urban lines includes one called Comissaria de Policia – Universitat Jaume I, but it does not say which police station it serves, so we do not treat it as a route to these offices. Plan the trip from the address on your confirmation, and leave time to find the entrance.
